1. Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Jason Hanson. I recently passed the CPA exams and currently an Assurance Associate at BDO USA, LLP. I’m originally from the Philippines and used to be an Officer-in-Charge of the Navigational Watch for a Maritime Company before I found my passion in Accounting.

2. What made you go into accounting?

I have keen eye for details, so after watching the movie “The Accountant” I told myself I’d be a forensic accountant someday. Being an auditor excites me because it makes me think critically and try to figure out why something is wrong and what I can do to fix it.

3. What are some of your greatest challenges and accomplishments?

Switching profession was definitely tough. The “uncertainty” was overwhelming. But I knew that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life doing something I didn’t enjoy. So, I took a leap of faith. My biggest accomplishment is when I finally found my passion (career wise). I have clear goals and I’m doing something I truly enjoy.

4. What are your hobbies or current side projects that you have going on?

I like to run. I haven’t done a marathon yet but it’s definitely on my to-do list. I also love to read novels. Some of my favorite authors are Harlan Coben, David Baldacci, John Grisham, and a lot more. (I have a HUGE collection of their books too).
